Dar Salam

Portland, Oregon

OPEN

Good outcome here: the business is still trading today.

What happened after

Iraqi restaurant, Portland's best-known; Eater Portland's halal-dining roundup (March 1 2026) covers it in present tense, and a Tripadvisor review dated March 18 2025 confirms a recent dine-in visit.

What happened on the show

Ghaith and Tiffany Sahib were losing supplies at their Portland Iraqi restaurant and suspected their staff of feeding a nearby food cart. Charles Stiles sent mystery diners Brianna and Jamie in as a waitress and a customer. As aired, a manager and a prep cook had been supplying the cart with the restaurant's own food, including a Dar Salam specialty, while another cook pocketed fresh onions and potatoes. The confrontation has the owners firing the manager and the supplying cook, one arguing the cart was a missed opportunity. Stiles closes with the cart out of business and the shortages gone. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this supply-diversion sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified.

After the cameras left

Dar Salam is a clear survivor, the best-known Iraqi restaurant in Portland. An Eater Portland halal roundup from early 2026 covers it in the present tense and a 2025 review confirms a recent dine-in visit, per our 2026 pass, with two locations appearing active. A well-reviewed institution was never the fragile business a sting implies. It kept running on its reputation, not on anything a camera crew did in one night, which is the recurring story behind the show's survivors.
