Revisited in "After Anthony Special" (S00, aired 2013-02-04), a Season 2 clip-show checking in on six Season 1 hotels; not a new business, no separate row.
What happened after
Wine-country resort and spa; official site live with active booking calendar (July-Aug 2026) and spa portal.
What happened on the show
Set among the vineyards of Livermore, the Purple Orchid was a wine-country resort and spa whose setting did a lot of the marketing before a guest ever arrived. The trouble was turning a scenic address into a full, profitable operation, the recurring Season 1 puzzle. Melchiorri approached the resort the way he approached every asset-rich, discipline-poor property on the show, by asking what a traveler paying resort rates actually received once the view was subtracted. He examined the rooms, the spa offering, and the packaging of the whole experience, then pressed ownership to build a reason to book that went beyond the pretty grounds. His guidance pointed toward tightening the guest experience and selling the wine-country escape as a coherent product rather than a collection of nice features, so the resort could earn its rates instead of merely justifying them by geography.
After the cameras left
The Purple Orchid remains in business as a wine-country retreat. As of our latest 2026 verification the resort and spa is open, with an official site carrying an active booking calendar into the following months and a working spa reservation portal at its 4549 Cross Road address in Livermore. More than a decade after the cameras left, the property is still selling the vineyard escape Melchiorri told the owners to package properly. Confirmed operating as of 2026.
